Building the business case for energy efficiency projects

Training and one-on-one project support to help energy practitioners improve the success-rate of business case proposals for energy efficiency projects

  • How is the course structured?

The course can be customised to the needs of particular clients as required. Typically, public courses are structured around two x half day training sessions and up to 15 hours of project support following the training. The course has also been run as a one day program.

The course is practice-oriented and there is a high level of interaction between participants as they share their experiences and seek solutions to specific challenges that they face in developing clear and compelling business case proposals.

The course is structured around a ‘learning case’ that is introduced at the start of the training and provides a practical illustration of the steps involved in developing an effective business case proposal.

At the heart of the training content is the 'business case devevelopment framework'  that is used to develop and review business case proposals in a very structured way. The framework integrates three essential components of an effective business case proposal: stakeholder engagement, development of a clear and compelling value proposition and establishing appropriate financing options including the NSW Government’s Energy Savings Scheme.

To support direct application in the workplace, participants undertake a short research project between workshops one and two - or as in in-house exercise when the course is run in a single day. The research project requires participants to apply the 'business case devevelopment framework' to a business case proposal in their own or in their client's organisation.

Following the workshop participants are eligible to receive up to 15 hours of the consultants’ time to progress business case proposals. This ‘value add’ to the training ensures that participants complete the course having achieved tangible outcomes for their organisation.
