Regional facilities manager energy efficiency workshops in retail shopping centres

Client

Stockland

Partner

Funding provided by the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage under the Energy Efficiency Training program

Brief
  • Adapt an existing energy efficiency training program that was developed with The GPT Group in office buildings to a commercial shopping centre retail setting.

  • Evaluate the outcomes from the training

  • Provide suggestions and guidance for promoting and applying the training more widely across the retail buildings sector

Approach

Consultation with Stockland corporate and facilities management staff was a key starting point for the project. This process highlighted that Stockland saw an opportunity to bring together the facilities managers from four shopping centres in Western Sydney to conduct the workshops rather than applying them on a building-by-building basis.

Outcomes

Through the workshops a number of specific opportunities for energy efficiency improvement were identified and are currently being acted upon. At the final workshop these opportunities were presented to the Site Managers at each shopping centre. These managers acknowledged the need to refocus their efforts on energy efficiency and provided support for further scoping and, in some cases, implementation of the identified projects.
